Dominican University Captures 2021 CACC Women’s Basketball Championship
The women’s basketball team won its first CACC Championship in more than 18 years and finished the year with an overall record of 12-2 and a CACC record of 8-1.
The Lady Chargers finished in second place in the CACC and earned the second seed in the CACC Tournament. DC won their first and second round games against Felician University and Nyack College to reach the CACC Championship Finals. In the finals against the top-seeded Lions of Georgian Court University, Dominican cruised to the 81-65 victory.
Dominican earned the top seed in the NCAA East Regional Tournament, hosted by Daemen College. As the top seed, they earned a bye in the quarterfinals and squared off against #5 Roberts Wesleyan College in a semifinal contest. DC suffered a heartbreaking 77-73 double overtime loss to the Redhawks to end their season.
Taylor Tomlinson was named the MVP of the CACC Women’s Basketball Championships, along with being named to the All-Tournament Team. She previously had been named to the All-CACC Women’s Basketball Team. Tomlinson led the team and ranked ninth in the conference in scoring, while leading the team and sitting in sixth place in rebounds. She also ranked sixth in the conference in field goals and blocks and is eighth in field goal percentage. Tomlinson also earned one Division II/III Metropolitan Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades.
Teammate Khay’la Latimer made her first appearance on the All-CACC Team. She ranked 14th in the CACC and was second on the team in scoring, while leading the conference in three-point field goal percentage and three-point field goals. Latimer sat ninth in steals, 1oth in points and was in the top 20 in rebounds among CACC leaders. She also earned CACC All-Tournament honors.
Joining Tomlinson and Latimer on the CACC All-Tournament Team were: Alexis Suarez and Jasmine Gee. Gee had recorded her 1,000th career point on February 11, 2021 vs Concordia College.
The Lady Chargers will say farewell to two seniors: Gee and Korina Guerra.
