Welcome…
The Dominican University Teacher Education Division offers outstanding undergraduate programs leading to certification in Childhood Education (1-6); Early Childhood/Childhood Education (birth-6); dual certification in Childhood Education/Students with Disabilities (1-6); Adolescence Education (7-12) in four subject areas, Biology, Social Sciences, English and Mathematics; and dual certification in Adolescence Education/Students with Disabilities (7-12). We also offer a Senior Year Overlap Program (SYROP) that allows seniors to finish their requirements for a baccalaureate degree while simultaneously earning twelve graduate credits toward their master’s degree.
Dominican University offers master of science degree programs in Childhood Education (1-6); Teacher of Students with Disabilities (1-6) (including additional annotation/extension for severe and multiple disabilities); Teacher of Childhood Education/Students with Disabilities; Teacher of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (Pre-K to 12); Educational Technology Specialist (K-12) with a second track in Educational Media; and Adolescent Education in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, English, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies and World Languages. These programs are offered in a weekend/hybrid format and the Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired is offered in an online format.
All of our Teacher Education programs are nationally accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and have received the highest level of accreditation from this body. We are very proud of this distinction. Many of our graduates secure teaching positions right after finishing their student teaching semester because of our strong reputation.
Members of our faculty are not only highly competent in their field but they are also very caring professionals. Since our program is relatively small, we know each student and discuss their progress throughout their four years at our university. The Teacher Education Division is truly a family.
